Good Faith Estimate

Good Faith Estimate Summary

You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" that outlines the anticipated costs associated with your medical care. According to the law, healthcare providers are required to provide patients who are uninsured or not using insurance with an estimate of their medical bills for items and services.

You are entitled to obtain a Good Faith Estimate detailing the total expected costs for any non-emergency items or services. This estimate should include related expenses, such as medical tests, prescription medications, equipment, and hospital charges.

Ensure that your healthcare provider supplies you with a written Good Faith Estimate at least one business day before your scheduled medical service or item. Additionally, you can request a Good Faith Estimate from your healthcare provider or any other provider you select prior to scheduling any service or item.

If you receive a bill that exceeds your Good Faith Estimate by at least $400, you have the right to contest the bill. Be sure to keep a copy or photograph of your Good Faith Estimate for your records. For questions or additional information regarding your right to a Projected Cost Summary, please visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises .
