Whenever the hip is used, the cushion in the cartilage will reduce the friction as the hip bone moves in its socket.
Even though it's durable, the hip joint isn't indestructible at all. With age and constant use, the cartilage will experience wear and tear or even becomes damaged. The muscles and tendons in the hip can become overused. Your hip bones can be broken during a fall or other type of injury. No matter what the reason is, these conditions can cause you to have hip pain.
When you're suffering from daily pain in your hip due to arthritis or bursitis, even some simple movements like walking or climbing the stairs may seem like a tedious task. So if you want to relieve yourself from any pain on the hip, then these are the things that you should do.
Relieving Hip Pain in Vacaville CA
- Start your day with an exercise - If you do the bridge exercise every morning, you will make your muscles become activated, engaged, and worked thus providing total support on your body for the rest of the day. To do this, lie down on your back, bend your legs and flatten your feet on the floor with a hip-wide distance in-between. Press down on your ankles and slowly raise your buttocks off the floor while tightening your abdominal muscles. Make sure to maintain the alignment on your knees and ankles then aim for a straight line from your knees to shoulders. Avoid arching your back in this process then hold that position for 5 seconds. After that, slowly lower your buttocks back on the floor. Start off by doing 1 set of 10 reps then slowly increase until you can do 2 or 3 sets.
-
Apply some heat for arthritis - You can warm up your arthritic hip joint by taking a warm bath or shower since this can help soothe your joint. But if your hip pain is being caused by bursitis, don't ever use heat to relieve the pain because it can worsen your inflammation.
-
Strengthen your inner thighs - Your inner thighs are one of the muscle groups that supports your hip. One of the ways you can strengthen it is by lying on your back, place a ball between your knees and squeeze. If ever you don't have a ball to use, you can also find a Pilates ring or a hard pillow as a replacement. You can start by doing only 1 set with 10 reps each then slowly start building your sets from there.
-
Stretch to relieve bursitis - You should stretch your hip muscles that are sitting on top of the bursae because it can help relieve your bursitis pain. Knee on the leg that's causing pain while holding onto a sturdy object to maintain your balance. You should tilt your pelvis forward to tighten your gluteus muscles. After that, lean away from the side of your hip that's causing pain. This will help stretch the top of your hip bone all the way down to the side of your leg and into the knee. Hold down the stretch for 30 seconds then repeat it once or twice.
-
Cool an inflammation with ice - If there's an inflammation on the joint that's caused by arthritis or bursitis, then place an ice pack on the area to sooth the inflamed area and help with the hip pain. If ever it becomes too painful, you can ice the area for 4 to 5 times daily for a good 15 minutes.
-
Avoid doing high impact activities - The hip pain caused by arthritis and bursitis can worsen when you're running and jumping. You can do some walking exercises as of the moment until the pain completely disappears from your body.
-
Do your work outs in water - Swimming and water aerobics are beneficial for your hip joints. If you exercise in water, your muscles will strengthen without putting any pressure and stress on your joints.
-
Lose weight for arthritis relief -If you're suffering from osteoarthritis in your hip, try losing a few pounds because doing so can offset the pressure from your joints and relieve hip pain. You can follow some diet plan or do some low impact exercises to take off some of your weight.
-
Listen to your body - If you're suffering from arthritis or bursitis, doing some exercises can actually relieve some of the pain. But how do you know when to stop doing exercises or certain activities to prevent your hip pain from worsening? If ever you feel some pain when doing a particular exercise and it continues on for hours or days, that's a clear sign that you need to rest from it. It's a normal feeling to be a bit sore a day after your exercise but do understand that the pain shouldn't persist or worsen after that. Also, if there's a sharp or shooting pain, make sure to stop what you're doing and talk to your doctor or physical therapist right away.
